Climbing the Grand for a Tibetan Cause

2008_rowell_climbAugust 2008 marks the third year JHMG has provided its high camp, mountain guides, and support for a fundraising climb by The Rowell Fund for Tibet, a program associated with the International Campaign for Tibet. David Breashears, Jimmy Chin, and Conrad Anker, along with JHMG guides Doug & Jed Workman, Laura Deighton, and Mark Postle, climbed with John Ackerly, the president of ICT, six donors, and a Tibetan for three days, culminating with ascents of the Grand Teton via the Petzoldt Ridge and the Pownall-Gilkey Route.

The Rowell Fund for Tibet program, which is managed by the International Campaign for Tibet, gives small grants to Tibetans who are working to promote their culture and environment. The Fund was set up by the climbing partners and family of Galen and Barbara Rowell after their deaths in 2002. Anker, Chin, and Breashears are all on the advisory board of the Rowell Fund for Tibet.

The International Campaign for Tibet, based in Washington DC, works to promote human rights and democratic freedoms for the people of Tibet.2008_rowell_climb2
