JHMG offers a full selection of winter trips. From introductions to ice climbing and winter camping, to winter alpinism with serious mountain objectives, if you want to learn how to experience the winter world in a safe and comfortable manner you will find your goal here.
Intro to Ice ClimbingJoin JHMG for your first experience on ice. Learn the fundamentals of ice climbing, ice screw placement and belay techniques. No climbing experience is required. We conduct our ice climbing classes near Lake Louise, outside the town of Dubois on the east side of the Wind River Mountains. While one-day classes are regularly done, two days with a night spent in Dubois works best.

Multi-pitch Ice ClimbingJHMG offers three options for some fine ice climbing in the area:
Lake Louise, where abundant and accessible multi-pitch ice is found in the Wind River Mountains. The Gulley WI3, and Golden Tears WI4 are area classics with mixed climbing options.

Death Canyon, whose routes offer a very full day’s adventure in Grand Teton National Park: The Sentinel WI3, Prospectors WI3+ and Dread Falls WI4 M3.
$350 private; $210pp per day for 2Cody, Wyoming, where multi-pitch ice climbing is at its best in one of North America's most spectacular ice climbing areas, the scenic South Fork of the Shoshone. We also often offer special ice clinics in conjunction with the Annual Cody Ice Festival in February each year.

Winter Skills SeminarLearn snow travel and camping skills in the Tetons. You will travel by ski or snowshoe into the backcountry for an unforgettable experience. We’ll build igloos or quinzees and sleep warm all night.

Teton Peak AscentsJoin us for an adventure and improve your winter alpinism. Climb the SW couloir of the Middle Teton, the N couloir of the South Teton, the East Ridge of Buck, Disappointment Peak, Shadow Peak, or the East Face of Teewinot; these classic winter routes can be ascended in stable conditions.
$350 private/day; $230pp/day for 2; $185pp/day for 3Grand Teton Winter AscentFollowing Paul Petzoldt’s long-standing tradition, JHMG is proud to offer winter ascents of the Grand Teton, America’s most coveted alpine climbing objective. Winter climbing experience is required for this demanding 5-day ascent.

Expedition Training SeminarLearn the skills required to climb Aconcagua, Denali, and the high peaks of the Himalaya. From an advance base camp in Garnet Canyon you will gain proficiency in snow and ice climbing, anchor building, crevasse rescue and winter camping. Use this course to prepare for an ascent of Denali with the Alaska Mountaineering School.
