South Fork Ice Festival

cody_ice10Climb some ice with JHMG in Cody, Wyoming this winter! We are offering a selection of guided ice opportunities from February 13-21, 2008, the week of the South Fork Ice Festival. The South Fork of the Shoshone River is a spectacular valley in the Absaroka Mountains just outside Cody, Wyoming. It has numerous herds of wintering wildlife, 11,000 foot mountains towering above, and hundreds of accessible ice climbs. The climbs are internationally known; indeed, this area contains the largest concentration of natural frozen waterfalls in the continental United States. Climbers of all abilities will find fun and challenging objectives. This area is definitely worth a visit; please join us this year.

During our clinics and climbs, you can expect to learn about movement on ice, using ice tools, belays, and ice protection, and you will spend lots of time climbing on ice. Our guides are experienced ice climbers and knowledgeable, patient teachers. You should come to your climb prepared for a full day out in the Wyoming winter.

JHMG provides harnesses, helmets, belay devices, ice axes, crampons, ropes and anchors. You may bring your own climbing gear if you wish. You will need to bring clothing suitable for a day spent outdoors in the winter. Please refer to our equipment list for a complete list of what to bring. In addition, you will need to bring a liter or two of water and lunch. Please view our Cody Trip Planner for more information about the area.
